MP for Belagavi and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said that Padma Shri awardee Prabhakar Kore’s contributions to the fields of education, healthcare, cooperation and industry over the past four decades had played a significant role in the development of North Karnataka. He was speaking at a mega felicitation programme organised to mark former chairman of KLE Society and former Rajya Sabha member Mr. Kore’s 79th birthday on the KLE Educational Institution campus in Ankali iof Belagavi district, which was attended by thousands of people on Saturday. Shettar said that Mr. Kore through his dedicated service to the KLE Society had brought national and international recognition to Belagavi.
And lakhs of students had benefited from institutions established by the KLE Society. Both State and Union governments should make use of Mr. Kore’s experience for the benefit of society, he said. He also credited Mr. Kore with playing an important role in the establishment of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha and in efforts to hold legislature sessions in Belagavi. Besides education, Mr. Kore had established institutions in the healthcare, cooperative and industrial sectors, providing employment opportunities and strengthening the rural economy, Mr. Shettar said. MLA Anil Benake said the KLE Hospital had provided treatment to thousands of patients and highlighted its role in delivering healthcare services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
MLA Shashikala Jolle said the KLE Society, which began with few institutions, had expanded to more than 300 branches under the leadership of Mr. Kore, thus benefiting students from across the country. MLA Ganesh Hukkeri said political differences had never come in the way of developmental initiatives and credited Mr. Kore’s guidance for accelerating several projects in the region. Responding to the honour, Mr. Kore thanked the people, colleagues and workers for their support and said the Padma Shri was a recognition of their collective efforts. Referring to the rainfall during the event, he said it was a blessing after farmers in the region had waited for rain for nearly two months.
MLC and the State government’s Special Representative in New Delhi, Prakash Hukkeri, presided over the event which was attended by Channasiddarama Panditaradhya Shivacharya Swami of Srishail Peeth. MP Annasaheb Jolle, former Minister Veerakumar Patil, MLA Duryodhan Aihole and former MLA Mahantesh Doddagoudar were among those who attended the programme. Earlier in the day, a blood donation camp was organised by the KLE Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre as part of the birthday celebrations. Over 400 donors from Chikkodi, Athani and Raybag taluks participated. Fodder was also donated to a goshala.
