Union Home Minister Amit Shah (File photo) Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved the advance release of Rs 2,117.85 crore under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to support seven states affected by floods during the ongoing southwest monsoon. The funds will be used to strengthen relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts in the affected regions. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Centre has been closely monitoring the flood situation since the onset of the monsoon in coordination with state governments.
It has also provided all possible assistance, including the pre-deployment of Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and logistical support from the Ministry of Defence wherever required. To assess the extent of the damage, Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) have already visited Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Two separate teams were deputed to Assam due to the severity of the floods, while an IMCT is also being constituted for Nagaland following a request from the state government. The financial assistance has been approved for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Nagaland. While Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and Nagaland had already received the first instalment of the Central share of SDRF for the financial year 2026-27, Amit Shah has now approved the advance release of the second instalment for Himachal Pradesh and Odisha to ensure adequate funds for relief operations.
The government has also relaxed documentation requirements to allow the advance release of the first instalment of the Central share of SDRF for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat and Maharashtra, considering the urgent need for relief funds. Under the approved allocation, Arunachal Pradesh will receive Rs 44.55 crore, Assam Rs 379.35 crore, Gujarat Rs 500 crore, Himachal Pradesh Rs 193.95 crore, Maharashtra Rs 500 crore, and Odisha Rs 500 crore. The total assistance of Rs 2,117.85 crore is aimed at strengthening flood relief and response measures across the affected states. The Ministry of Home Affairs said the Union government remains committed to extending all necessary support to states affected by the monsoon and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
