Mob violence on Bengaluru’s Doddaballapur factory premises: 12 arrested in assault case

The Doddaballapur Rural police have arrested 12 persons for allegedly attacking a private firm, ransacking its premises, and assaulting the owner and others in connection with a case of moral policing and road rage on July 26. While the 12 accused have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and remanded in judicial custody, the police have launched a manhunt for others who are absconding. According to the police, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. near Doddatumkur village, within the limits of the Doddaballapur Rural Police Station.
Anupam Kumar and his friend were allegedly involved in an altercation with a group of three to four persons while they were sitting near the village. Following the incident, Anupam Kumar and his friend reportedly drove to the firm in their car. The persons allegedly involved in the earlier altercation followed them to the company premises. After receiving information about the incident, complainant Arvind Bharadwaj reached the factory. The police said that around 30 to 40 persons gathered at the spot and allegedly created a violent situation.
The group allegedly damaged the window panes of Anupam Kumar’s car parked outside the factory, entered the company premises, and attacked the complainant and others. The complainant allegedly sustained bleeding injuries to the back of his head, right hand and right leg after being attacked with weapons, including a long stick, mace, stick and knife. Anupam Kumar was also allegedly assaulted with a knife, suffering injuries to his head and the right side of his body, besides abrasions on his hands and other parts of the body.
Some company employees reportedly sustained minor injuries in the incident. The complaint filed by Arvind Bharadwaj stated that the attackers also damaged the company’s CCTV camera and monitor, shattered the window glass of the car, assaulted the complainant and his family members, and issued death threats. A case has been registered at Doddaballapur Rural Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have formed three special teams to trace and arrest the remaining accused persons for further investigation.
