In a security alert issued on Saturday (August 1), the embassy said the regional security environment remains "complex" and cautioned that the situation could deteriorate without warning. US urges Americans to prepare for possible evacuation The embassy advised Americans currently in the Middle East to remain vigilant and be prepared for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions. It said some airlines have delayed resuming normal flight schedules while others have cancelled routes altogether.
"Americans in the region should consider departing, or be prepared to depart should there be escalation," the advisory said. The embassy also urged Americans outside the Middle East to "seriously reconsider" travel to or through the region. Iran described as unpredictable The alert warned that the Iranian government has become increasingly unpredictable, citing recent attacks carried out without warning and the expansion of operations into countries that had not previously been targeted, including Egypt. The embassy cautioned that Americans should not assume they are safe simply because US interests have not previously been attacked in a particular country. "Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other US interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world," the advisory said.
