According to Iran’s Tasnim News, Tehran has prepared what it describes as a comprehensive plan to target key energy facilities across the Middle East if the United States or Israel launches fresh strikes. The warning comes as a US official told Axios that Trump is seriously considering attacks on Iranian energy targets, although no final decision has been taken.
Iran lists key energy targets According to Tasnim News, Iran has prepared a plan aimed at disrupting the Middle East’s oil and gas infrastructure if the US or Israel carries out new attacks. The reported target list includes Saudi Arabia’s Ghawar oil field, which accounts for more than 5 per cent of global oil supply, along with the Abqaiq and Khurais facilities, which produce more than 7 million barrels of oil per day. In the United Arab Emirates, the reported targets include the Zakum oil field and the Ruways refinery, which processes more than one million barrels per day. Iran’s reported list also includes Qatar’s North Field and Ras Laffan, which together account for around 20 per cent of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade. Other locations mentioned are Kuwait’s Burgan oil field, producing around two million barrels per day, Bahrain’s Sitrah refinery and Al-Mihaj, and Israel’s Leviathan and Tamar gas fields.
Iran issues warning A senior Iranian security official, quoted by Tasnim News, said, “We have prepared a comprehensive plan to respond to any potential American recklessness." The official also referred to the 40-day war, claiming Iran had bombed Qatar’s most important gas refinery and that Trump later apologised on Truth Social. Trump yet to take final decision The Iranian warning comes after reports that President Trump is weighing military action against Iranian energy infrastructure. A US official told Axios that Trump is seriously considering launching attacks on Iranian energy and infrastructure targets in the coming days but has not yet issued final orders. According to the report, the proposed bombing campaign would be aimed at pressuring Iran to accept US terms in the ongoing ceasefire negotiations. The report also said the strikes could involve the Israeli military for the first time in several weeks. Such an escalation would likely trigger Iranian missile attacks on Israel, according to the report.
