A devastating flash flood has washed away a crucial culvert in the Bela area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, cutting off more than 20 villages from the rest of the district. With the only road link destroyed, hundreds of residents are now forced to walk several kilometres through streams, muddy trails and rocky terrain to reach schools, hospitals, markets and workplaces.
The collapsed culvert, once the lifeline of the region, has brought normal life to a standstill for thousands living across the Bela belt.
