The Department of Studies in Computer Applications at the PG Centre of Vidyavardhaka First Grade College (VFGC) organised a one-day international seminar on “Computer Vision for Text Detection and Forensic Handwriting Analysis” on Friday at the college auditorium. The seminar is being organised in association with the Vidyavardhaka Research Foundation and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, research interaction and academic collaboration among students, faculty members, researchers and industry professionals.
Basavanna M., Professor and Chairman, Department of Studies in MCA, Davangere University, Shivagangotri, inaugurated the seminar. Shivakumara Palaiahnakote, Professor of Computer Science at the School of Science and Engineering Environment, University of Salford, Manchester, UK, was the
resource person for the seminar. P. Vishwanath, Secretary, VV Sangha presided while Shreeshaila Ramanavar, Treasurer, and Tejas Baba K.C., Chairman of the College Management Committee, were the guests of honour. Three technical sessions were held during the
seminar: “A Journey of Text Detection and Recognition in Natural Scene Images,” “Handwriting Analysis for Forensic Applications,” and “How to Write a Tier-1 Scientific Article.” Around 200 delegates, including teachers, research scholars, students, professionals and industry representatives participated.
