According to a senior police official, the attack took place in the Kellam area of Kulgam when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the workers. “One non-local worker has been killed and another injured in Kellam area of Kulgam. Both were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. One of them has succumbed to injuries," the official told CNN-News18. The deceased has been identified as Deepak.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the attack. Police sources said the victims were working at a brick kiln in Kellam when they came under attack. The assailants fled the spot after carrying out the shooting. The injured labourer, Bupinder Kumar, is currently undergoing surgery, sources said. Security forces have rushed to the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.
