Two labourers died after being electrocuted while digging a pit to connect a sewer line in Faridabad's Sector 14, police said on Friday. The families of the two men have alleged that the house owner knew about an underground power line at the site but did not warn them before the work began. Based on the complaint filed by the families, police have registered an FIR against the house owner, identified as Sushil, at Central police station for alleged negligence.
Police said the incident took place on Thursday evening in Sector 14. Read Full Story According to police, the labourers were digging a pit to connect the sewer line when two of them came in contact with an underground power line and suffered severe electric shocks. Police said the shock was so strong that both men died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Manish, 55, a resident of Sector 3, and Shahanshah, 29, a resident of Sector 2.
Police said both were originally from Bihar. After the families were informed, they reached the spot. Other workers present at the time -- Ram Rahisa, Suraj and Ratiram -- alleged that Sushil was aware of the underground power line but did not inform the labourers before the work started. They said the accident could have been avoided if they had been warned. Police said they reached the spot after receiving information, took custody of the bodies and sent them to the mortuary for postmortem.
"An FIR of negligence was registered against the house owner Sushil. We handed over the bodies to their kin after the postmortem today and are investigating the matter," said Inspector Satbir Singh, SHO of Central police station, Faridabad. The case now centres on the allegation that the labourers were not warned about the underground power line before the sewer work began. Ends
