According to the sources, several workers at the site were non-locals, but the two victims were reportedly the only Hindus, raising suspicions of religious profiling in the attack. Sources further said investigators suspect the involvement of one local and one foreign terrorist, with the probe primarily focusing on Mohammed Lateef, who allegedly joined Lashkar-e-Taiba/The Resistance Front (TRF) last year.
The investigation is underway, and officials are yet to issue a detailed statement. After the incident, Lieutenant Governor took stock of the situation and said he had spoken to Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and other top security officials following the attack, in which a labourer from Chhattisgarh was killed. “I spoke with the DGP, Shri Nalin Prabhat and top security officials following the brutal terrorist attack in Kulgam in which a labourer from Chhattisgarh was killed. I strongly condemn this cowardly act. I have directed our security forces to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists." Sinha added that the area had been cordoned off and a search operation was underway. “J&K Police and Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to bring the perpetrators to justice. Another injured labourer from Chhattisgarh has been rushed to the hospital for urgent medical care.
My deepest condolences to the bereaved family and I am praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. J&K administration and the entire nation stand with the families." The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Friday condemned the terror attack in Kulgam that claimed the life of a non-local labourer and left another injured. Reacting to the incident, JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma described the attack as a matter of serious concern and called for decisive action against terrorism. In a post on X, Sharma wrote, “JKPCC strongly condemns the killing of a non local labourer & injuries to another by terrorists in Kulgam. The nefarious designs of terrorists should be defeated. It is matter of serious concern. Such acts are unacceptable. Our sympathies with the affected."
