Out of the 2.56 lakh tonnes of legacy waste accumulated at the Guthikondavaripalem dumping yard, nearly 1.76 lakh tonnes have been processed so far, Ongole Municipal Corporation (OMC) officials informed Prakasam District Collector P. Raja Babu during an inspection at the site on the outskirts of Ongole city on Friday (July 31, 2026).
The Collector monitored the process of workers handling the waste collected from the city. He directed the OMC staff to expedite the waste recycling process operations. The officials stated that the RDF (Refuse-Derived Fuel) generated is being transported to cement factories, inert material is being used to fill low-lying areas, and bio-soil materials are being utilised as fertiliser.
The OMC officials also provided details regarding the progress of the new dry waste centre being constructed here. The Collector directed them to create awareness among
the public to segregate wet and dry waste at the source—their homes. He emphasised the need to explain the harmful effects of single-use plastic to the people.
