Representational image/PTI Authorities have ordered the immediate de-induction of 16 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) from Delhi Police duty following a Ministry of Home Affairs directive issued on July 30.
The units include 12 companies of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), alongside four other CRPF companies, one of which was marked as “not reported" in the official order. Officials have been directed to arrange substitute security deployments for the vacated locations. Sources indicated that the decision was taken after a fresh assessment of the overall law and order situation in Delhi. This withdrawal follows intense scrutiny over the RAF’s handling of the “Sansad Chalo" march at Jantar Mantar on July 20, organised by the satirical group Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) to protest alleged NEET paper leaks. Official documents show that during the protest, an RAF unit deployed at Zone-1 alongside a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP)-rank IPS officer used an Anti-Riot Gun (ARG), tear smoke shells, and other crowd-control gear.
The ARG is classified as a non-lethal or less-lethal weapon, though it differs from a pellet gun. In the wake of an operational review following the incident, RAF headquarters issued strict instructions barring the use of pellet guns, anti-riot guns, electric shock weapons, and electric shields during Delhi deployments until further notice.
