Hundreds of scheme workers, including ASHA workers, anganwadi workers, midday meal staff, Village Organisation Assistants (VOAs), Resource Persons (RPs) and school sanitation workers, staged a rally to the Collectorate on Friday, demanding a revision of wages and improved working conditions.
The protest, organised by the Shramika Mahila Samanvaya Committee, affiliated to the CITU, as part of a State-wide programme, began at Saraswathi Park and passed through Daba Gardens, Prakasaraopeta, Jagadamba Junction and Watch House before culminating in a meeting at the Collectorate.
Addressing the gathering, Visakhapatnam district convener of the Shramik Mahila Samanvaya Committee, P. Mani, alleged that scheme workers had not received a wage revision for seven years despite a sharp rise in the cost of living. She demanded that the government fix a minimum monthly wage of ₹26,000, reduce workload, stop harassment and withdraw what she termed unnecessary mobile applications.
CITU leaders R.K.S.V. Kumar, B. Jagan and representatives of various scheme workers’ unions also addressed the protest.
