India on Friday accused Pakistan of using "ruthless force" against peaceful civilians in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), saying that the crackdown has killed more than 40 people and left many others seriously injured. Calling the situation deeply alarming, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in a statement, urged the international community to order an independent investigation into the unlawful killings and hold Pakistan accountable. Read Full Story In the strongly worded statement, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Pakistani establishment's actions reflected its "absolute disdain" for the people of PoJK.
It also criticised Pakistan Defence Minister's remarks describing the protesters as "enemies", saying the comments laid bare Islamabad's attitude towards civilians demanding their rights. India further referred to a public statement by Pakistan's Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, claiming the official had acknowledged that the very "mujahideen" trained, funded and armed by the Pakistani establishment for operations against India had now turned their guns against the Pakistani state.
It further said that the admission reinforces its long-standing position that Pakistan's policy of nurturing militant groups has ultimately fuelled instability within its own borders. New Delhi also questioned the credibility of the recent electoral exercise in PoJK, describing it as a "humiliating rejection" of the Pakistani establishment amid what it called an increasingly violent political environment. India said people in PoJK have sought an independent international investigation into the killings and urged global organisations to examine Pakistan's actions closely.
"We urge the international community to scrutinise Pakistan's actions and hold it accountable for its atrocities," the statement said, calling for greater international attention to the human rights situation in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Ends
