In Miyapur, Hyderabad, an unused water tank has been transformed into an education support centre for underprivileged students. Run by a local trust for nearly two decades, the facility provides free education, food, and study materials to children from below-poverty-line families. The initiative began to help students who lacked academic support at home, particularly those whose parents work as daily wage labourers.
The centre operates on a peer-learning model where senior students teach juniors. Over the years, the non-governmental organisation has helped hundreds of students pursue higher education, with over two hundred completing their graduation and twelve hundred finishing diploma courses. Beneficiaries shared their experiences, highlighting how the trust funded their polytechnic and engineering studies after they completed their schooling. The centre operates safely within the robust structure of the water tank, offering a vital lifeline to students from slum areas who would otherwise struggle to afford private education and achieve their career aspirations.
