Narasipura staged protests on July 31 demanding that Karnataka not release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu under any circumstance, citing poor storage levels in reservoirs and inadequate rainfall. In Nanjangud, farmers led by State Sugarcane Growers’ Association blocked the Mysuru–Ooty highway near the BDO Office for some time by forming a human chain to protest against the order of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) to release water to Tamil Nadu.
Expressing concern over the directive, the protesting farmers said Karnataka was facing drought-like conditions and farmers were in distress. The protesters warned that they would intensify their agitation to safeguard the interests of Karnataka and its farmers. In T. Narasipura, farmers led by Guruswamy, president of the T.
Narasipura Taluk Sugarcane Growers’ Association, staged a protest by entering the Cauvery river. They raised slogans urging the State Government not to release water to
Tamil Nadu, stating that farmers across the Cauvery basin were already reeling under severe water scarcity due to poor rainfall.
