The Indian Army has unveiled its indigenous Xtreme Weather Grade (XWG) Diesel, a specialised fuel designed to keep military vehicles operational in extreme cold conditions as low as -42°C.
Launched by Chief of Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth in New Delhi, the BS-VI compliant fuel has been jointly developed by the Indian Army and Oil Marketing Companies.
Unlike conventional diesel that can thicken and affect vehicle performance in freezing temperatures, XWG Diesel enables smoother operations without modifications to existing Army vehicles. The breakthrough is expected to strengthen mobility, readiness and logistics support in high-altitude and snow-bound regions, while also opening possibilities for wider civilian use in extreme weather areas.
