Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam is not planning to quit the DMK and join the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), sources close to him said on Thursday, dismissing speculation about a possible switch as ābaselessā. The sources said Mr. Panneerselvam continued to enjoy cordial relations with the DMK leadership and remained in touch with party president M.K. Stalin.
āHe has informed the party leadership of his position. Panneerselvam is also expected to make his stand clear publicly in a day or two,ā they said. A former DMK Minister, who met Mr. Panneerselvam a few days ago, also said the latter had categorically denied reports linking him with the TVK.
Speculation over Mr. Panneerselvamās political future surfaced after six AIADMK MLAs resigned their Assembly seats and joined the ruling TVK. However, sources close to the former Chief Minister said there was no basis for reports suggesting that he was considering a similar move.
There were also claims that his son and former MP, O.P. Raveendranath, was in favour of joining the TVK.
