A 17-year-old aspiring cricketer died by suicide in Nagpur after being upset over not being selected in the Vidarbha Cricket Association's (VCA) recent selection process, police said. The deceased was found hanging at her residence in Nagpur's Laxminagar area at around 5.30 am on Wednesday. According to the police, a handwritten note recovered from the spot stated, "Mera selection nahi hua" ("I was not selected"), indicating that she had been distressed over missing out on the VCA selection.
Read Full Story The deceased, a native of Maharashtra’s Akola, had been living in Nagpur with her mother for the past two years to pursue cricket. She was training at the cricket academy and aspired to play the sport at a higher level. Her brother is also a cricketer. Police said that preliminary investigation suggests that she had been under mental stress after her name did not appear in the latest VCA selection list, however, the exact circumstances leading to her death would be ascertained only after the investigation is completed.
Police personnel rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident, carried out the preliminary investigation and sent the body for post-mortem. An accidental
death report has been registered and further investigation is underway. Ends
