Hailing from Haryana, Seema delivered a best throw of 58.65m to finish on the podium after going through a tense competition. The bronze medal marks the latest chapter in an inspiring journey for the 27-year-old from Bhiwani who successfully returned to elite competition after overcoming multiple personal and professional challenges. Following motherhood and a serious knee injury that kept her out of action for over three years, Seema underwent extensive rehabilitation before re-establishing herself among India’s leading discus throwers. Oh and Seema is also pursuing a Ph.D. in Physical Education as she continues to balance academics with the demands of international competition. After winning gold at the 2025 Games, Seema narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships before clinching gold at the South Asian Athletics Championships. In 2026, she achieved a personal best of 59.73m, cementing her place among India’s top discus throwers and earning qualification for the Asian Games as well for the CWG 2026 in Glasgow.
At CWG, Seema recovered from a foul in her opening attempt to throw 57.32m in the second round before improving to 58.65m in the third. Although she fouled her remaining three attempts, the mark was enough to hold off the chasing pack and secure the bronze medal behind Jamaica’s Samantha Hall (61.66m) and Canada’s Julia Tunks (60.67m). Seema has received financial assistance of Rs 3.47 lakh during the CWG cycle, along with support for participation in key international competitions, including the Asian Athletics Championships and South Asian Athletics Championships.
