European football's governing body, UEFA, says all its member countries would boycott future World Cup tournaments over Fifa President Gianni Infantino's controversial proposal to sell stakes in the competition to private equity investors. The lead investor would be a venture capital firm founded by Joshua Kushner - the brother of Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump's son-in-law.
Infantino has offered billions of dollars in payouts to global football federations to support his plan. Uefa is accusing Fifa of using football "to enrich themselves and their friends." And now, CONCACAF, the football governing body for North and Central America and the Caribbean, is also rejecting Fifa's plan.
In a statement, it says, 'the membership expressed deep concerns about the lack of due process surrounding the proposal, the artificially short deadline imposed, and the absence of any review or approval by the relevant FIFA governance bodies.' But CONCACAF stopped short of threatening a World Cup boycott.
