Heads Roll At CBSE Over OSM Fury: Chairman And Secretary Transferred; Inquiry Committee Set Up Published By, Last Updated: June 02, 2026, 18:19 IST Rahul Singh served as the chief executive of CBSE, tasked with overseeing the board’s overall functioning and administration. Rapid Read CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta were transferred on Tuesday. In a significant step amid growing public anger over the On-Screen Marking (OSM) process, the Centre on Tuesday transferred the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Chairman and Secretary, while constituting a one-man inquiry committee to probe the matter. Rahul Singh served as the chief executive of CBSE, tasked with overseeing the board’s overall functioning and administration, while Himanshu Gupta was the CBSE’s Secretary and chief administrative officer, handling legal matters, audit and public relations.

The development came amid an escalating controversy over the board’s newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. Amid mounting backlash over the OSM controversy, the CBSE on Tuesday opened a re-evaluation portal for students. Centre Sets Up Inquiry Committee Additionally, a one-member committee has been constituted to inquire into matters related to the procurement of services for the OSM system by the CBSE. The committee will be chaired by S Radha Chauhan, Chairperson, Capacity Building Commission (CBC), who will be empowered to obtain the assistance of officers from other offices. The CBS will also provide secretarial assistance to the committee. The committee will submit a report on the matter within 30 days to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). The OSM digital evaluation mechanism was introduced by CBSE this year for Class 12 board exams.

Under the system, evaluators assessed scanned copies of answer sheets instead of physical answer books. After the declaration of results, students across social media began alleging discrepancies in marking and answer-sheet evaluation, ranging from unchecked answers and incorrect totals to blurred scans. The CBSE ran into further trouble after several students revealed discrepancies in the OSM, from major security lapses to issues in the tender process. CNN-News18 had earlier reported how the ‘blacklisting’ clause was removed from the original August 2025 tender, months before the contract was awarded to Hyderabad-based Coempt Eduteck Private Limited.
