(IANS) The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited’s (UPPCL) proposed 10% surcharge on June electricity bills has been put on hold by the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission. In a previous notification, the UPPCL said it will impose a 10% Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS) calculated for the month of March 2026, which will be charged in June.
The surcharge was challenged by the Electricity Consumer Council, which claimed that it would unfairly put a burden on consumers. According to a report by India Today, the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has postponed the Uttar Pradesh Power Corp’s decision to impose an additional surcharge on electricity bills for June, which is a major relief for electricity consumers throughout Uttar Pradesh. If Surcharge Was Applied The additional 10% surcharge means that consumers in Uttar Pradesh would need to pay an additional charge on their electricity bills for June to help power utilities recover higher fuel and power procurement costs.
The surcharge would have affected all consumer categories, including domestic, commercial, industrial and agricultural users. The impact will vary depending on electricity usage: A household with a monthly bill of Rs 1,000 will have to pay Rs 100 extra. This latest move comes at a time when consumers are already grappling with rising fuel costs. Following the latest revision, petrol prices in Delhi crossed the Rs 100-mark, rising by Rs 2.61 to Rs 102.12 per litre, while diesel prices went up by Rs 2.71 to Rs 95.20 per litre.
