(AFP file photo) The United States on Thursday imposed fresh sanctions on a global network it accused of supporting Iran’s Mahan Air, targeting six individuals and entities in China, India, Russia and Iran. The US Treasury said the sanctions were aimed at companies and individuals providing support to the Iranian airline, which Washington alleges helps transport personnel linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as well as weapons and drone systems.
The targeted entities include companies that act as sales agents for Mahan Air in different countries, including India, China and Russia, the US Treasury said in a statement. US Targets Mahan Air’s Global Network US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said those providing financial, logistical or commercial support to the IRGC or Mahan Air were helping sustain what Washington described as a terrorist enterprise. “Treasury will continue to identify them, expose them, and cut them off from the US financial system," Bessent said. The sanctions include China-based Shanghai Wings International Logistics Co, which the Treasury accused of serving as a general sales agent for Mahan Air and coordinating the transport of electronics from China to Iran. The US also sanctioned China-based individual Tang Xin, who is linked to Shanghai Wings and Shanghai Elite International Travel Co, another company accused of representing Mahan Air in China.
India-based Skiez Travels and Logistics Private Limited and Russia-based Air Cargo Pro Limited were also designated for their alleged role as sales agents for the airline. The Treasury said Mahan Air, while operating as a civilian carrier, has provided travel services to IRGC personnel and helped facilitate the procurement and movement of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems and weapons. The latest action also targeted DadeNegar, a Tehran-based company accused by Washington of having “solicited locations of American and Israeli equipment to support Iranian military targeting." Iran has repeatedly rejected US allegations against Mahan Air and other state-linked aviation entities, calling the accusations baseless. However, American and European sanctions have continued to restrict Iran’s aviation sector, limiting access to aircraft, spare parts and maintenance services.
