(Image: X) A 29-year-old IIT graduate has been arrested for posing as a spiritual guru, sexually exploiting women and using photographs and videos of the acts to blackmail them and their families. The accused, identified as Abhishek Mishra of Odisha but identifying on social media platforms as “Adikarta Narayan Das", holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Roorkee. The arrest was made based on a complaint registered by one of the victims, a 22-year-old BSc Nursing student, from Chhattisgarh on May 25.

The accused has been booked under rape. How Adikarta Narayan Das Gained His Followers Online Abhishek Mishra was living in Radhakunj area of Mathura for about four years, presenting himself as a Kathavachak (religious storyteller). In his YouTube channel ‘Radha Kripa Amrita’, he broadcast sermons in both Hindi and English. However, he has maintained a professional profile on LinkedIn under his assumed name. NDTV quoted police saying that he used these platforms not only to build a following but to identify and target young women, particularly those with engineering backgrounds. They further said that Mishra would establish contact with women through his videos and then gradually manipulate them into cutting ties with their families and moving in with him. At his Mathura residence, around 24 young men and women were at one point living together.

They said he would offer the women Gandharva Vivah, one of the eight classical types of Hindu marriage based on love, mutual consent, and use this as a pretext for exploitation. PTI quoted Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Goverdhan circle of Mathura, Anil Kumar Singh saying that the woman alleged that Mishra offered her milk, claiming that it was a “prasad" and that it contained an intoxicating substance. After drinking the milk, the woman said she lost consciousness and was allegedly raped by him, who then recorded obscene photographs and videos of her. Police further said that he specifically targeted educated women, including engineers and professionals employed in large companies, before allegedly exploiting and blackmailing them. NDTV quoted police saying that the accused’s mother, who was initially living with him, eventually left the residence owing to her son’s conduct.

Initially Mishra lived in rented accommodation in the area, he later built his own house. An investigation is currently underway to ascertain how many women were targeted.
