Mysuru is undergoing a facelift ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on August 1, with roads along the convoy route being resurfaced, public spaces beautified and security measures stepped up for the high-profile event. The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in the city on Saturday afternoon to inaugurate the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre (Viveka Smaraka) on N.S. Road.
Developed by the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysuru, the memorial commemorates Swami Vivekananda’s historic visit to Mysuru and his stay at the Niranjan Mutt, also known as the Old Anathalaya, where the memorial has been established. Ahead of the visit, civic authorities have undertaken beautification works around the venue. Roads along the Prime Minister’s convoy route have been given a fresh layer of asphalt, while the compound walls of Maharani’s College, opposite the Viveka Smaraka, have been repainted to enhance the surroundings.
Security has also been significantly tightened. The Indian Air Force conducted helicopter landing trials at the Oval Grounds on Thursday under heavy security, while barricades have been erected along the route connecting the Viveka Smaraka and the
Ramakrishna Ashrama, where the Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit. Following the inauguration of the memorial and his visit to the Ashrama, Prime Minister Modi will address a public gathering at around 4.25 p.m. on Saturday.
