Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the fourth special Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting to review the escalating geopolitical conflict in West Asia and its impact on India. The cabinet secretary briefed the meeting on horizontal and vertical conflict escalation, outlining measures taken to secure energy supplies, including petroleum, LNG, LPG, and PNG. Refineries are operating above 100% capacity, and LPG procurement sources have been diversified. The meeting also assessed fertilizer requirements for the Rabi season, with Prime Minister Modi directing uninterrupted supplies for farmers and emphasis on renewable energy like solar power.
Furthermore, the committee discussed the safety of Indian seafarers and over 10 million diaspora members in the region. Prime Minister Modi instructed the establishment of a unified, time-bound mechanism to provide information, emergency assistance, and counseling to seafarers and their families. A whole-of-government approach was mandated to regularly monitor developments, expedite decision implementation, and safeguard national interests amid the prolonged crisis.
