Hundreds of people from Hassan and neighbouring districts attended the 11th-day ceremony of Chennamma Deve Gowda, wife of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, held at Mavinakere in Holenarasipur taluk on Thursday. Chennamma Deve Gowda passed away in a hospital on July 18, and the final rites were held at the foothills of Mavinakere Ranganatha Swamy Betta on July 20.
Family members of the former Prime Minister had made elaborate arrangements for the 11th-day ceremony. The road connecting Holenarasipur and Hassan witnessed heavy traffic as followers and relatives of the Deve Gowda family participated in large numbers. Chief Minister and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, former Minister H.D. Revanna, and other family members conducted the rituals.
Kumaraswamy thanked the people and the seers who participated in the programme and conveyed their condolences. Among those who attended the event were Union Minister V. Somanna, former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra, MLC C.T. Ravi, former Minister Ashwathnarayana, and former Union Minister C.M. Ibrahim.
The family members had arranged food for the participants. Hassan district police had made security arrangements for the event.
