The State Goods and Services Tax (GST) department has launched tax raids on Kerala’s gold trade sector. Conducted jointly by the intelligence and enforcement wings of the department, the raids are being carried out on 79 locations, including 35 jewellery showrooms, branches and residences of traders.
State GST officials said the raids began at 3 p.m. on Thursday (July 30, 2026). The Statewide inspections are aimed at unearthing tax evasion, illegal transactions and unaccounted stock and other GST-related irregularities.
In mid-July, the department had detected turnover suppression to the tune of ₹70.73 crore in raids conducted on bar hotels. The inspections, named ‘Operation Stormlight,’
had been carried out in 38 bar hotels.
