Legal awareness programme on human trafficking organised in Yadgir

A legal awareness and assistance programme regarding the NALSA (Victims of Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation) Scheme-2015, a national initiative by the Legal Services Authority that provides free legal aid, rescue assistance, and social rehabilitation for survivors, was organised at Chiranjeevi High School in Yadgir on Thursday. Mariyappa, senior civil judge and member-secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), who inaugurated the programme, said that human trafficking poses a major challenge to society and emphasised that everyone must be vigilant regarding the safety of women and children.
The judge has given information to the participants about laws related to the prevention of human trafficking, free legal aid available to victims, rehabilitation facilities, and various government schemes. Shivaraj Kattimani and Mallikarjun Managanal, assistant legal aid counsels of the DLSA, created awareness about the forms of human trafficking, its adverse effects, children’s rights, and the legal assistance available during emergencies.
The programme was jointly organised by the DLSA, Yadgir, and the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), to mark World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. Students from the school actively participated in the programme and
gained information about the prevention of human trafficking, child protection, and legal awareness. The headmaster of Chiranjeevi High School, Jaipal, field coordinators of DCPU Rajeshwari, Parvathareddy, Tanuja; and staff members from the DLSA were present.
