The State government is gearing up to extend a grand welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the Alluri Sitarama Raju International airport in Bhogapuram, Vizianagaram district on August 1, 2026. As part of the inaugural programme, around 13,000 children will perform the traditional tribal folk dance Dhimsa on Saturday. More than 5,000 students rehearsed at the venue on Thursday in the presence of senior officials including Special Chief Secretary M.T. Krishna Babu and Collector S.
Ramsundar Reddy. The officials directed dance instructors to fine-tune the performance and ensure its successful presentation. Prime Minister Modis is expected to arrive in a special flight. Since the runway is fit for operations, the PM’s aircraft will land directly at the new airport, where commercials operations are scheduled to begin on August 17. Goa Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu and other VIPs will receives the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, officials held a high-level meeting at the command control room established at the airport premises as only a day remains for the Prime Minister’s visit. Visakhapatnam Range DIG Gopinath Jetti, Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar and other officials discussed the route map for the APSRTC buses and other vehicles. The APSRTC will operate more than 3,000 buses from Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Parvatipuram-Manyam district to enable people to attend the inauguration.
Officials also checked the vehicle parking area, food courts, water facility, bathrooms and other areas in and around the airport.
