In wake of the steep rise in rice prices in the open market the Civil Supplies Department will begin sale of super fine rice and other varieties at subsidised prices from August 1 through the Market Intervention Programme (MIP) in Kakinada district, as part of a pilot project.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Kakinada Joint Collector Apoorva Bharat announced, “Three varieties of rice will be sold at the Rythu Bazaars to address the rise in rice prices. Super fine rice will be sold at ₹52 per kilogram, steam rice (BPT variety) and raw BPT rice will be sold at ₹52 and ₹50 respectively.” The departments of civil supplies, agriculture and rice millers association will together monitor the procurement, transportation and supply of rice.
“The Kakinada District Rice Millers Association has been directed to ensure supply of rice without any interruption for sales in all the Rythu Bazaars. Special
rice sales counters will be opened for sales of the three rice varieties,” said Mr. Apoorva Bharat.
