The remark triggered sharp reactions from BJP leaders, who accused the Congress MP of making an inaccurate claim and questioned the basis of the figure cited by her. Speaking during the debate, Priyanka Gandhi said that there had been 152 paper leaks in the last 12 years and that “750 crore students" had been affected, while alleging that no paper leak mafia had been convicted.

Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, she stepped out to insist that her brother was ‘not Pappu’.

India’s total population is about 147 crore. Priyanka competes with Rahul Gandhi in intelligence!" Jitendra Singh Questions Figure Union Minister Jitendra Singh also raised questions over the statement, saying the number cited by Priyanka Gandhi exceeded the world’s population. “There is no authentication of this statement. She said it affected 750 crore students. It accounts for more than the entire world’s population. Where does this number come from? It is either ignorance or mischief," Singh said, while replying to the debate on the anti-paper leak bill in Lok Sabha.
