A 10-year-old girl was killed after a speeding car knocked her down while she was walking to school with her aunt near Kudur in Nelamangala
A 10-year-old girl was killed after a speeding car knocked her down while she was walking to school with her aunt near Kudur in Nelamangala taluk on Thursday morning. The victim, identified as Likitha, a class 4 student at a government school, died on the spot after being hit by a speeding car on Highway 75 near Kudur between 8 a.m. and 8.15 a.m., the police said.
A probe revealed that Likitha’s mother had prepared breakfast and left for work. The girl was walking to school with her aunt when the car, travelling from Nelamangala towards Kunigal, hit her allegedly due to the driver’s rash and negligent driving. Her aunt narrowly escaped without serious injuries. The police have identified the driver as Prabhu and have taken him into custody.
They also seized the vehicle involved in the accident. A case has been registered at Kudur Police Station, and the body was sent for post-mortem before being handed over to the family. The funeral was held later in the
day. Residents of the girl’s Beeruvara village said the stretch has witnessed several accidents in the past and renewed their demand for the construction of a skywalk to ensure the safety of schoolchildren and villagers crossing the busy highway.
