Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye is in hospital after collapsing during a court hearing. Besigye collapsed while attending proceedings in his treason trial, which he says is politically motivated.
His wife says he remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). His health has deteriorated since he was detained in November 2024, including complications following a prolonged hunger strike earlier this year.
Last month, his lead lawyer was arrested and charged with allegedly failing to report acts of treason. Al Jazeera’s Catherine Soi is following developments from Nairobi, where Besigye was abducted in 2024 before being taken back to Uganda.
