A new ICMR study, Pan-India Molecular Surveillance of Dengue Serotypes (2023–2025), suggests that India is entering a hyper-endemic phase, where all four dengue virus serotypes—DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4—are circulating simultaneously across many parts of the country. The study highlights that repeated infections with different dengue serotypes can significantly increase the risk of severe dengue. Researchers also found cases where patients were infected with more than one dengue serotype at the same time, potentially increasing the chances of low platelet counts, bleeding complications, and severe illness.
