Elon Musk Backs Republicans For 2026 Midterms With America PAC Days After Admitting He 'Got Carried Away' In 2024 Published By, Last Updated: July 30, 2026, 11:49 IST Musk revives America PAC for 2026 midterms push, targeting low-turnout voters, despite admitting he went too far backing Trump in 2024. Elon Musk (file photo) Days after admitting he “got carried away" during Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign, Elon Musk is re-entering US politics with a major push for the Republicans in 2026 midterms. He is reviving America PAC, which spent over $260 million to help Trump win in 2024. “America PAC was an essential partner for our historic GOTV operation in 2024, and their return for 2026 is a huge boost for Republicans across the country," James Blair, a senior political advisor to Trump, said, as quoted in an Axios report.
This time, the PAC will focus on boosting Republican turnout through door-to-door outreach, digital and direct mail, targeting conservative voters who often skip midterm elections, the report noted. While Musk’s planned spending remains undisclosed, it is expected to be significant. In 2024, Musk became the largest individual political donor in a single US election cycle, with America PAC knocking on over 10 million doors across key swing states. For 2026, the group will coordinate with other Republican outfits, allowing them to prioritise television, with strategist Chris Young leading the effort. “I got carried away, frankly," Musk had said while speaking with Zanny Minton Beddoes, the editor of The Economist. Musk’s renewed push comes as Republicans hold a major financial edge over Democrats ahead of the November elections, despite concerns over Trump’s approval ratings and policy issues.
In terms of vote shares, though, several pollsters predict Democrats having the edge. His return follows recent remarks in which he said he should have focused more on his companies than politics, referencing his role in the government’s cost-cutting initiative, Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk had earlier backed Trump with around $200 million and later distanced himself, even criticising key policies and floating the idea of a third party. However, ties have since improved, and by late 2025, Musk had resumed supporting Republican campaigns, signalling a renewed political alignment ahead of 2026.
