(File pic: AFP) Pakistan senator and human rights advocate Mushtaq Ahmad Khan was allegedly intercepted by Punjab Police and taken to an undisclosed location while travelling towards Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), according to an incident report issued by the Pakistan Rights Movement (PRM). The organisation alleged that Khan was taken away on July 28 without an arrest warrant, formal charge or any explanation of the legal grounds for his detention. His location and physical condition remained unknown at the time the statement was issued. Pakistani authorities have yet to publicly clarify whether Khan was detained, where he is being held or whether any case has been registered against him. Denied Entry Into PoK According to the PRM report, Khan and members of his team had set out for PoK carrying white flags to express solidarity with families affected by the recent violence involving Pakistani security forces.
The group was stopped at the Azad Pattan Bridge and denied entry into the region. Khan subsequently recorded a protest against the decision and began returning to Islamabad, the organisation said. Punjab Police Accused Of Intercepting Vehicle The PRM alleged that Punjab Police personnel stopped Khan at Kahuta Bazar at approximately 7.07 pm on July 28. According to the statement, Kahuta Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police Waqar took control of Khan’s vehicle by moving the driver aside and taking the steering wheel. The vehicle was then driven away with Khan inside. Other vehicles accompanying him were temporarily stopped before being allowed to continue, the report said. WhatsApp Location Pointed To Rawat Police Station After losing contact with Khan, members of his team asked him to share his live location through WhatsApp. The location allegedly indicated that he had been taken to Rawat Police Station on GT Road. The team subsequently reached the police station but was denied permission to meet him, according to the PRM. The organisation said its last direct communication with Khan came at 12.26 am on July 29. During that exchange, Khan reportedly informed the team that police officials had told him senior officials from Rawalpindi wanted to meet him.
