The accused, identified as Pruthvi and her alleged lover Nilesh, were arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Jignesh Mavadiya, who had been reported missing since 2024.
According to police, Jignesh’s family believed he had settled in Australia after his disappearance. Police alleged that Pruthvi and Nilesh, who were reportedly in a relationship even before her marriage, conspired to kill Jignesh by mixing cyanide into his glass of alcohol. He allegedly died after consuming the poisoned drink. Police said the duo then transported the body to a factory in the Dared Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) area, where they allegedly dug a pit nearly 12 feet deep and buried the body beneath the factory floor in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Following the alleged confession, police, along with a forensic science team, excavated the site and recovered human remains. The remains were sent for forensic examination to establish the victim’s identity. Assistant Superintendent of Police Pratibha of Lalpur division said the investigation gained momentum after inconsistencies emerged in the victim’s wife’s account of his whereabouts. “During interrogation of the victim’s wife, the entire incident was uncovered. Both accused have been arrested. Based on the information provided by them, excavation was carried out at a pit in the Dared GIDC area to recover the mortal remains," the officer said. Police are continuing forensic and technical investigations to gather further evidence.
