An assistant professor at the IIT Kharagpur was found dead in his staff quarters on the institute campus on Wednesday, police said. The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Deepak Reddy Pullaguram, an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and a native of Hyderabad. According to police, security personnel found Pullaguram hanging from the ceiling of a room in his staff quarters and alerted the authorities. He was found hanging from the ceiling. We are investigating the case," Kharagpur SDPO Siddarth Singh Dangi said. Police reached the spot, recovered the body and registered a case of unnatural death. Pullaguram was taken to BC Roy Hospital on the IIT Kharagpur campus, where doctors declared him dead. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said they are investigating all possible angles, and the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the professor's death are yet to be ascertained. The professor's family has been informed about the incident.
His house has been sealed for now, reported The Hans India. Moreover, the investigators are speaking with the security guards and other residents of his staff quarters as well as his colleagues to learn more about the matter. The late professor's house is also being searched to find vital clues. The investigating team is probing if Pullaguram had any family disputes or faced any work-related problems. According to the IIT Kharagpur website, Pullaguram joined the institute in 2022. He holds a BTech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad.
He did his MTech in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) from the Institute of Technology Warangal before moving to Delhi for his PhD in the domain from IIT Delhi. In the past, he worked as an assistant professor at his alma mater, NIT Warangal, from June to November 2019. Before that, he worked at the University of Texas Arlington in the US from November 2018 to November 2019. Ends
