(APF file photo) Oscar-winning US actor and singer Jared Leto on Wednesday denied sexual assault and harassment allegations made by women in a new BBC documentary, calling the claims “absolutely and categorically false". “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false," Leto said in a statement. The allegations were made in the BBC documentary “Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret", in which women described alleged encounters with the actor between 2002 and 2016, when he was in his 30s and 40s.
Leto is now 54. Women describe alleged encounters According to the BBC, four women alleged that Leto sexually assaulted or threatened them when they were teenagers. One woman said she was sexually assaulted by Leto at a motel when she was 17, while another alleged that he threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19. A third woman said she had underage sex with the actor in California when she was 17, while another alleged that Leto made sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16. The BBC said four other women described receiving “strange and often very sexual phone calls" from Leto. The broadcaster said it had corroborated several of the women’s accounts through friends and family members who were told about the alleged incidents at the time.
It also said it had reviewed photographs and messages that supported some of the accounts. Leto has denied the allegations. The actor has faced similar accusations before. In 2025, several women accused him of sexual misconduct in an investigation by US digital magazine Air Mail. Leto also denied any wrongdoing at the time. Leto won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2014 for his role in “Dallas Buyers Club". He has also appeared in films including “House of Gucci", “Suicide Squad" and “Morbius". Beyond acting, Leto is the lead vocalist of alternative rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars.
