It also described the ongoing electoral process in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) as a "cosmetic electoral exercise", alleging that it was an attempt by Pakistan to "camouflage its illegal occupation and hide its grave human rights violations in the region." Referring to the ongoing unrest in POK, the MEA said the protests were the result of "Islamabad's decades-long systemic economic exploitation, denial of fundamental rights, and administrative oppression." The MEA Fact Check also posted the same message on X while responding to a social media post claiming Jammu and Kashmir remained disputed territory under UN resolutions and defending Pakistan's electoral process in the region.
Rejecting those claims, the MEA reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, including the areas under Pakistan's "illegal and forcible occupation", are an inseparable part of India. The exchange
comes amid continuing unrest in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Protesters have alleged that Pakistani security forces opened fire during demonstrations in Rawalakot and Mirpur after talks between the JAAC and authorities
