In an interview, Dr. Alok Kumar Rai, Director of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, evaluated the government's anti-paper leak bill proposing a 10-year jail term and a 10 crore fine. He noted, "through punitive measures, prevention is being aimed at," highlighting that severe penalties reflect the gravity of crimes affecting millions of students and families. Rai outlined five key examination stakeholdersâexaminers, printers, logistics handlers, storage centers, and organizersâwhere vulnerabilities occur.
Explaining why CAT exams remain insulated compared to undergraduate tests like NEET or JEE, he cited a high proportion of professional candidates, lower overall weightage of CAT scores in admissions, computer-based testing, multi-level question anonymity, and the institutional credibility of the six conducting IIMs. Addressing concerns over stringent penalties imposing operational pressure on examination bodies, Dr. Rai stated that functional stress encourages organizers to execute their duties with increased caution and seriousness.
