Sonam is accused of orchestrating the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. She surrendered in compliance with the apex court’s order issued last week. Supreme Court Revoked Bail A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and PB Varale allowed the Meghalaya government’s appeal against the bail granted to Sonam, holding that she was not entitled to relief at this stage of the trial.

The Supreme Court observed that the trial had reached a crucial stage and said Sonam’s continued release on bail could affect the judicial process. It also ruled that she was aware of the grounds for her arrest when she was taken into custody, adding that any typographical errors in the arrest memo could not justify granting bail. However, the bench clarified that Sonam would be free to seek fresh bail if the trial is not completed within six months. Raja’s Family Welcomes Decision Reacting to the development, Raja Raghuvanshi’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision and thanked the judiciary, the Meghalaya government and the investigating agencies. Expressing confidence in the judicial process, he said he hoped the trial would conclude at the earliest and that everyone responsible for his brother’s murder would receive strict punishment.

What Is the Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case? The case dates back to May 2025, when newlyweds Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi travelled from Indore to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. Days after the couple went missing, Raja’s body was recovered from a deep gorge, triggering a high-profile murder investigation. According to investigators, 25-year-old Sonam allegedly conspired with her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, and hired assailants to kill Raja for financial gain. She was arrested in June 2025 and has been facing trial along with the other accused. A Shillong trial court granted Sonam bail in April, and the Meghalaya High Court later upheld the order in June. The Supreme Court subsequently set aside both orders, cancelled her bail, and directed her to surrender before the trial court.
