The State government has urged Union Minister Gajendra Singh Sekhawat to develop Buddist circuit, aimed at improving Buddhist tourism in the Krishna-Godavari region in Andhra Pradesh, said Minister for Culture, Tourism and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh on Wednesday. Durgesh offered special prayers during the inauguration of the Buddha Vihar built under the aegis of the Maitreya Buddha Vihar in Undrajavaram mandal in East Godavari district.
Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, West Godavari, Krishna, NTR, and Guntur are among the districts where the government proposed a plan for the circuit, he said. “The Andhra Pradesh government has proposed to develop a Buddhist circuit, giving fillip to the Buddhist places in the Krishna-Godavari regions, beginning from Aadurru in Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Konaseema district to Ghantasala and Amaravati in the erstwhile Krishna district,” the Minister said while addressing a gathering.
Tourism development “We have also requested [Gajendra Singh] Shekhawatji to extend support for the Buddhist circuit in Andhra Pradesh and he has been appraised about the proposal,” Mr. Durgesh said, adding
that the tourism development would also help bring in better connectivity and infrastructure to these regions. The Minister also interacted with monks including Bante Analayo and Sri Lanka’s Dr.Bodhagama Chandima Nayake Theero.
