The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has launched a crackdown on several prominent private clubs and eateries in Mumbai following major food safety and hygiene violations. Inspecting officers found live cockroaches, moldy ingredients, unhygienic food storage, structural decay, and pest infestations across kitchens in elite establishments including Cricket Club of India, Willingdon Sports Club, MIG Cricket Club, RK Juhu Gymkhana, and Aparna Juhu Gymkhana.
Food safety licenses of multiple facilities have been suspended due to non-compliance with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India guidelines. Additionally, officials directed school canteens to secure proper food licenses while enforcing a ban on junk food sales on educational campuses.
