Left-wing student organizations restarted protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar following the detention and arrest of students who participated in the Parliament March on July 20. Protesters accused the government of a breach of trust, stating that an agreement was previously reached that no action would be taken against demonstrators. Protesters asserted that despite verbal assurances from the government leading to the withdrawal of the movement, FIRs are still being lodged, and police investigations are continuing.
They criticized government assurances and court observations regarding individuals with prior criminal records, arguing that past FIRs lodged during peaceful demonstrations are being used to justify arbitrary arrests and mass retaliation. Demonstrators highlighted that several students remain jailed in Bihar and elsewhere. Protesters warned of initiating widespread campaigns and calling for a larger nationwide agitation if all detained students are not unconditionally released and all lodged cases revoked.
