Jagadish Shettar, MP, has urged the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to begin the construction of the Belagavi bypass, which has been taken up by the Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Shettar met V.
Umashankar, secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and urged him to allow the NHAI officers to invite tenders for the Belagavi bypass Package 1 without waiting for Packages 2 and 3. Shettar said the delay in the remaining packages was prolonging traffic congestion in Belagavi city and that work on Package 1 should commence independently.
He also spoke about the difficulties faced by farmers in accessing their agricultural lands along the Belagavi–Hunagund–Raichur Highway and sought the provision of service road connectivity.
The secretary assured Mr. Shettar that the issues would be examined and an appropriate solution would be worked out at the earliest, according to a release.
