A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, led by former ministers Araga Jnanendra and V. Sunil Kumar, visited farm fields in Hassan district on Wednesday and interacted with farmers affected by drought. The leaders visited farm fields near Mosale Hosahalli and inspected the damage caused by drought to the maize crop.
The growers said their crops had also been affected by downy mildew, a fungal infection. Speaking to the media, Mr. Jnanendra said the State government had forgotten the farmers. “The farmers have lost the maize crop. They cannot expect any returns for their input cost and hard work.
However, the Department of Agriculture has not offered any assistance to farmers,” he said. He further alleged that the Congress party was busy with the Cabinet expansion and that people in the government had no time to listen to farmers. The BJP delegation visited villages in parts of Holenarasipur and Hassan taluks.
The delegation included Shivamogga MLA S.N. Channabasappa, Sakaleshpur MLA Cement Manju, Belur MLA H.K. Suresh, district BJP president Siddesh Nagendra, and others.
