The Lok Sabha has passed the Anti-Paper Leak Bill following intense debates, even as opposition members staged a walkout. The discussion witnessed a major political showdown over a July 20 student protest crackdown. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi targeted Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of authorizing pellet guns, lathi charges, and electric batons against student protesters. Rahul Gandhi demanded Amit Shah's resignation, stating that if the minister ordered the police action he was culpable, and if he was unaware, he was incompetent.
Treasury benches vehemently protested the allegations, leading to remarks being expunged from House records. Union Minister Jitendra Singh rejected the charges, stating that ministers do not issue orders to open fire or take police action, adding that tear gas was used instead of bullets. Despite the opposition walkout and ongoing controversy surrounding alleged pellet injuries suffered by student protesters, the Lok Sabha officially passed the bill.
